I just hiked the Inca trail in Peru! It was one of the hardest things I have ever done both mentally and physically! Before we began one of our guides took me aside and said, “Are you the leader of this group?” I responded “yes.” He leaned in closer and looked me in the eye and said “You have a great responsibility. You will determine how the group does on this trail. They will look to you as their guide to find strength, encouragement and positive thinking. If you are positive they will be and if you are scared they will be.” I said “Yes, I don’t take that responsibility lightly.” He said “yes, but, this is even more serious because the mountain hears you. She will hear your thoughts and your words and she will give you whatever you are asking for. It is imperative that you keep you thoughts pure as we embark on this journey.”

Simply put, yogis show up when others cant find the strength! Know that on the mat you will look directly into the eyes of your biggest demons and be forced to conquer or be defeated and walk away. These demons are our biggest fears, those fears like; failure, not being good enough or worthy of love. Not everyone is cut out to be a yogi…it takes a certain type. You must BE BRAVE, strong and bendable, because yoga will test your limits and the weak WILL break.
Yoga Studios seem to be popping up on every corner. What has caused the sudden interest in this ancient tradition? Are we in search of healing, transformation and devotion? Because that was the original intent of yoga which literally translates to the yoking of the mind, the body and the spirit--or is it just another fad driven by twenty something, girls adorned with mala beads wanting an excuse to wear the hottest trend in yoga pants and work out?
