The Inca Trail as a Metaphor for Life

I just hiked the Inca trail in Peru! It was one of the hardest things I have ever done both mentally and physically! Before we began one of our guides took me aside and said, “Are you the leader of this group?” I responded “yes.” He leaned in closer and looked me in the eye and said “You have a great responsibility. You will determine how the group does on this trail. They will look to you as their guide to find strength, encouragement and positive thinking. If you are positive they will be and if you are scared they will be.” I said “Yes, I don’t take that responsibility lightly.” He said “yes, but, this is even more serious because the mountain hears you. She will hear your thoughts and your words and she will give you whatever you are asking for. It is imperative that you keep you thoughts pure as we embark on this journey.”

May you Expect the unexpected!

Every day I try to look at the same things, hold the same yoga poses, go to the same places and see them differently. I seriously am a HABIT breaking fool! I view HABIT as the enemy! I struggle with the same boundaries as everyone else. I get it! How do you live in the same house, with the same people, go to the same job and still expect the unexpected?

THE TIME IS NOW!!!!!! WE NEED YOU!

Did you know that in the united states over the past 30 years Antidepressant prescribing has risen nearly 400% and suicide has surged to the highest levels ever. Studies show that those suffering the most seemed to be Middle aged women and men who are no different from you and me…

A Contemplative Conversation about LIFE

Attendee- If we can connect with the universe and get whatever we want, why do we want to do yoga or any asanas, we could just ask the universe to increase the prana level in the body. I am sounding too easy here but if we are ready to accept without any restriction cant we get what we want? Debbie- You are absolutely right! If you have evolved beyond Samsara and have no more need for the contrast the human experience offers you (maybe you have realized enlightenment) then you would be able to heal your body or elevate your consciousness in that way. However, at that point you would have no more need for your human form as you would have transcended beyond it. There are people who walk the line between enlightened beings but they are here taking human form and these people have removed themselves from the confines of society maybe they live meditating in the Himalayan mountains or in an ashram where they do not have to navigate through the world of form. But, those of us who are navigating this world; who go to work and have families and experiences, we pick up lots of Amma (physical and emotional toxins) and we use the asana and pranayama to light our inner fire (agni) and throw all of these toxins into the fire so that we can once again have a clear line of communication with the divine.  To be a powerful creator you must have a clear line of communication and strong antenna (this is the susumna nadi where we bridge the gap between the earth and the divine)

Why is Yoga always the Answer?

The spirit can be a lot like a small child. Trauma, pain, ridicule or judgment may have caused it to flee long ago or like a fragile vase that has been tossed about, it may have shattered into a million tiny pieces. This practice is about developing trust and an environment that is safe to heal all the cracks and invoke a reunion.  The spirit is our eternal life force bringing super-natural powers like eternal youth, fire, passion and enthusiasm. Spirit can flow in and fill all your cracks, bringing light to all the darkness and heal your soul. Spirit will leave you wanting for nothing. Needs and desires will temporarily dissolve as accessing the spirit takes presence and in presence you inevitably discover everything is here, exactly where you are.

How to never have to work one more day in your life!!

Are you stressed out and as a result experiencing depression, anxiety or poor health? Are you stuck in the cycle of wake up, go to work, go home, sleep just to do it all again tomorrow and the only way you can see to escape this hamster wheel is an unbelievable stroke of luck like winning the lottery? If you answered “no” you are one of the few who are already living a work free, passion filled, purpose driven life but, if you answered “yes” you have likely bought into the belief system passed down by our elders. Remember when dad used to say, “You must earn a living, the harder you work the more you should get paid and back-breaking work is what earns respect, nobody gets a free ride.” Isn’t it time that we challenge these old beliefs?
