"O monkey, disillusioned by our curse, you will for a long time be unaware of your own strength,." This was what was said to Hanuman, the monkey headed, Diety in the Hindu myth just before his super powers were taken from him. In the myth it is said that “the power of the words of the great sages, left Hanuman deprived of his strength.” However, there was no magic. His powers weren’t really taken from him. He was just put into a trance where he forgot he had ever had them. He only finds his powers again when he is reminded.
Happiness isn’t something that happens outside of us. It is something that happens inside. It isnt in things or experiences. We need to stop allowing our TV programming be our guide to happiness. Watching every night and thinking "They are happy. Maybe if I have that thing I can be happy too."
Did you know that in the united states over the past 30 years Antidepressant prescribing has risen nearly 400% and suicide has surged to the highest levels ever. Studies show that those suffering the most seemed to be Middle aged women and men who are no different from you and me…
Attendee- If we can connect with the universe and get whatever we want, why do we want to do yoga or any asanas, we could just ask the universe to increase the prana level in the body. I am sounding too easy here but if we are ready to accept without any restriction cant we get what we want? Debbie- You are absolutely right! If you have evolved beyond Samsara and have no more need for the contrast the human experience offers you (maybe you have realized enlightenment) then you would be able to heal your body or elevate your consciousness in that way. However, at that point you would have no more need for your human form as you would have transcended beyond it. There are people who walk the line between enlightened beings but they are here taking human form and these people have removed themselves from the confines of society maybe they live meditating in the Himalayan mountains or in an ashram where they do not have to navigate through the world of form. But, those of us who are navigating this world; who go to work and have families and experiences, we pick up lots of Amma (physical and emotional toxins) and we use the asana and pranayama to light our inner fire (agni) and throw all of these toxins into the fire so that we can once again have a clear line of communication with the divine. To be a powerful creator you must have a clear line of communication and strong antenna (this is the susumna nadi where we bridge the gap between the earth and the divine)
While the second limb Niyama, has to do with self-discipline and spiritual observances. This limb reflects the second chakra as is considered the home of the chi energy. When we have elevated to this chakra it is a sign that our vibration or vital life force energy has increased. We are no longer concerned merely with survival but also learning to enjoy our experience, as this chakra is awakened the yogi will find her/himself desiring to experience pleasure in many different forms.
The spirit can be a lot like a small child. Trauma, pain, ridicule or judgment may have caused it to flee long ago or like a fragile vase that has been tossed about, it may have shattered into a million tiny pieces. This practice is about developing trust and an environment that is safe to heal all the cracks and invoke a reunion. The spirit is our eternal life force bringing super-natural powers like eternal youth, fire, passion and enthusiasm. Spirit can flow in and fill all your cracks, bringing light to all the darkness and heal your soul. Spirit will leave you wanting for nothing. Needs and desires will temporarily dissolve as accessing the spirit takes presence and in presence you inevitably discover everything is here, exactly where you are.
The yoga practice is a long awaited reuniting of all the aspects of self, the necessary parts that make you whole, content and happy. This miraculous practice is a process that allows the healing power of awareness to move back into the subtle body, like plugging a dying battery back into an outlet, it recharges you.
